Twenty-Five

Delilah

As I come home, I expect to step through the front door to a quiet house, say goodnight to Bastian—who is back to sleeping upstairs—make my way to my own bedroom, fall asleep in my bed, and sleep soundlessly. My thighs are aching, my core has had a workout, and I'm in desperate need of a shower, but cleaning off will have to wait until the morning. Every muscle in my body is exhausted, and there's a buzzing energy in the back of my mind, where five brand new presences have settled, each of them vividly different and wholly alive.

Instead of all that, I'm greeted to the sight of my foster mother bent over the kitchen counter, her legs splayed, skirt pushed up to her waist, a very indecent thing being done to her by my father's former right-hand man.

An indecent thing she seems to be enjoying, based on the moan of ecstasy I catch before I whirl around and shoot back out the front door.

"You don't want to go in there," I warn Bastian, feeling like I've stepped into the plot of an R-rated romantic comedy. "They aren't decent."

Bastian's brow furrows. "Cat and Kerry?"

My poor aunt. She's in the downstairs guest bedroom right now, no doubt plugging her ears and humming loudly. Even now that I'm back on the front porch, and I'm sure they heard me interrupt them, I can still catch bits of filthy words and loud moans.

"Niall and Cat." I clear my throat, looking up into Bastian's dark eyes. There's a bright spot of curiosity and confusion in the back of my head where his presence takes up space. "They were doing what you and I just did. In almost exactly the same position, in fact."

There's a crescendo of muffled sounds that indicates the show might be close to curtain call.

Bastian's brow furrows, then clears, as he catches up. For a full-grown muscular man who recently had his penis inside of me, he's shockingly naive.

"I didn't know that they were mates like you and me," he says, his lust-tinged confusion leaking through our mate connection. "Niall has always smelled like... a mateless man."

"He had a mate, once." I swallow around the knot in my chest that tangles up as I remember all the women of Juniper who will never get to see the new, rebuilt Glass Pack, all because of Delphine. "I'm not sure he's had anyone since... the curse, really. Cat is probably good for him."

"Huh." Bastian tilts his head, his mouth pursed. "Do you think we inspired them?"

"I hope not," I blurt out, heat splashing across my cheeks. "Cat wasn't supposed to watch me."

"Why not? I watched you." He tugs at his collar, the black T-shirt he's wearing one we snagged on our way down here, from the spare clothes box stored near the refreshments table. "I especially liked watching you with Finn. It was... exciting."

He felt something a little more than excitement, based on the emotions and thoughts I'm getting from him. But that's an issue to tackle at a later date.
